Libra Shutters has successfully supplied both residential and commercial premises in the UK with shutters custom made to fit windows and doors. We specialise in window shutters, solid shutters, louvre shutters and all interior shutters either painted wood shutters or natural cedar wood shutters. We also supply shutters as room dividers.

We now have a new selection of shutter ranges with a unique style that will integrate with contemporary or traditional interiors. Our new clean look frame options allow for even inside recess fitting, allowing you to benefit from hidden magnet closure and less light infiltration.

We will continue to offer the old style shutters with beaded edges to existing customers only until January 31st 2008

THE BUYING PROCESS

As Libra Shutters are custom made, they are not as simple to design and measure as are curtains or blinds. Unless you really are an expert at measuring and fitting the shutters - our best advice would be to let us do the whole installation for you.

If you would like to get a rough idea of costing, please go to our quick quote service. Alternatively, you can call us with your window dimensions and we can quote you over the telephone and if you wish, we can arrange for a free, no obligation survey to be carried out at your premises.

The survey has two purposes, firstly the shutters must of course fit perfectly so will need to be measured accurately but secondly, there are many ways to place shutters and you will need to be present to discuss the various options with the surveyor. Do not order a survey if you cannot attend personally.

The surveyor will be able to price accurately after measuring and you can place your order for shutters there and then. Upon ordering, we will require a 50% deposit with the balance due on fitting.

We cannot survey openings accurately that are not finished, for example no plaster, tiling not done, window sills removed etc. If you are going to carry out any changes or alterations near the vicinity of your windows or to your windows, this may have an effect on your windows when measuring for shutters, ie. new flooring, new carpet or replacement windows/frames etc. Please ensure you carry out any alternations prior to arranging for a survey. Although shutters can be shortened after they are made, it is best not to do so.
We do offer a DIY discount for fitting your own shutters. It is possible to fit them yourself and many people do so very successfully. However, there are many pitfalls and it is only recommended for those of you with considerable DIY skills.

Interior shutters

Having just repainted the kitchen it looks like the lounge could be next. That`s the thing when you own a home, the list of jobs that need doing just seem to go on forever. Our lounge hasn`t been redecorated in over three years so it`s due an update pretty soon. We fancy a whole new colour scheme in the room and the curtains are going to get thrown in the bin. Replacing them will be Interior shutters as they fit in with the age of the property. Our house was built in Victorian times and during this era shutters were all the rage. Of course, we won`t be able to find any original shutters and if we do they might be pretty rotten affairs. Instead we will buy new types of Interior shutters and make sure that they fit in with our new colour scheme. I never realised just how many different types of shutters there were until I started to look at them recently. Café style shutters are pretty groovy; the types that only cover the lower half of the windows. At the moment we are still considering what type of Interior shutters would look the best in our lounge. It`s a toss up between full height units and tier on tier options.

Shutters

Period properties tend to lend themselves naturally to restoration work and in recent times it has become popular to reinstate certain features in dwellings that might have been removed over a period of time. Covings and original fireplaces are extremely popular and Shutters that once graced Victorian properties are also firm favourites at the moment. Original pine products are hard to come by as they have tended to rot away with age. However, new replacement items look just like the originals and they make wonderful features inside Victorian homes. These sturdy solid items are suitable for all types of rooms and you get plenty of choice when it comes to style. You could opt for café style Shutters in your kitchen that only cover the lower half of your window, or full height versions that cover the entire window. Tier on tier options prove to be extremely popular as they offer a number of options when it comes to being open and closed. If you have unusual shaped windows in the home, special designs can be made just for you. Various colours can be chosen so that themes within the home can be blended with perfectly. Period properties lend themselves ideally to Shutters but any type of dwelling would look amazing if these window features were fixed into place.

Net curtains can look nasty after they have been in place for some time and curtains need to pull themselves together if they think they look better than wooden shutters. In contemporary homes shutters look simply stunning and they can be extremely useful at letting in light when you want, whilst keeping out prying eyes if you want a little privacy. In all areas of the home shutters can prove to be ideal from bedrooms right down into the kitchen. Customers can opt for a number of types and colour finishes. There are café style units that only cover the lower half of the window or tier on tier shutters that have a cafe style bottom with another shutter mounted above it. Full height options are available and even unusual shaped windows can have bespoke types of wooden shutters made. Period properties tend to lend themselves well to this type of window dressing yet modern settings can look just as wonderful when they are in place. Home owners that are looking for window dressings that are stylish and sophisticated should look no further really. They can be catered for quite comfortably if they look at wooden shutters instead of looking at nasty nets or clichéd curtains.
